The Ford Mustang GTD Competition sets a lap time of 6:40.835 becoming the second fastest American car around Nürburgring Nordschleife. Ford Motor Company is cooking up something serious at its facilities these days. With the Ford GT Mk IV setting a blistering lap time of 6:15.977 to become the fastest American car around the Nürburgring Nordschleife a few days ago, the second-fastest American lap is currently held by the Ford Mustang GTD Competition. Yellow – Corvette ZR1X hybrid (6:49.275); Red – Corvette ZR1 (6:50.763) and Black – Corvette Z06 (7:11.826) The Ford Mustang GTD Competition, with its latest lap time, leaves the Corvette ZR1X behind by over eight seconds. Last year, the pure-petrol Corvette ZR1 clocked a lap time of 6:50.763, while the hybrid ZR1X improved on that with a 6:49.275 run, both comfortably ahead of the street-legal Ford Mustang GTD, which managed 6:52.072. This year, however, Ford Motor Company has made a strong statement, unleashing its machine on the circuit and turning the tables on its rivals. Ford Mustang GTD Competition The Ford Mustang GTD Competition achieved this benchmark thanks to key hardware updates and aggressive tuning, which include: A supercharged 5.2-litre V8 delivering significantly more power than the standard Mustang GTD’s 815 hp Enhanced aerodynamics, featuring a revised rear wing, additional front dive planes, and rear carbon-fibre aero discs Weight-saving measures such as carbon bucket seats, a lighter damper system, and magnesium wheels All these upgrades, along with Ford Performance and Multimatic factory driver Dirk Müller, have written history at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey Performance Kit and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series The Ford Mustang GTD Competition outpaces the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey Performance Kit, which recorded a 6:43.300 lap, as well as the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which completed the lap in 6:48.047. The Nürburgring lap-time rivalry doesn’t look like it’s ending anytime soon. Today it’s Ford Motor Company at the top; tomorrow, it could be someone else. What remains constant is the relentless hunger among brands to claim the top spot, along with the continuous evolution of technologies and tactics to go even faster. For now, though, you can sit back and enjoy the Ford Mustang GTD Competition as it tears around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:40.835.
