Hero MotoCorp’s 100% Ethanol Motorcycle Launch Marks New Era for Green Mobility

India’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility is set to take a significant step forward as Hero MotoCorp prepares to launch the country’s first motorcycle capable of running entirely on 100 percent ethanol fuel.

The landmark unveiling is scheduled for June 3 and is expected to be attended by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The launch marks a major milestone not only for Hero MotoCorp but also for India’s broader efforts to reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels. The upcoming motorcycle is expected to become the first production-ready two-wheeler in the country designed to operate on E100 fuel, which consists entirely of ethanol. While Hero MotoCorp has not officially revealed the name of the motorcycle, industry reports suggest that the new model could be based on the popular commuter-focused Hero HF Deluxe or Hero Splendor platform. Both motorcycles enjoy a strong presence in India’s commuter segment, making them ideal candidates for introducing ethanol-powered mobility to the masses.

The company had previously showcased a flex-fuel version of the HF Deluxe at industry events, giving enthusiasts a glimpse of its alternative-fuel technology. Reports indicate that the motorcycle is expected to comply with E85 and E100 fuel blends, enabling it to run on high ethanol concentrations while maintaining everyday usability and affordability.

Flex-fuel vehicles are equipped with engines capable of operating on varying blends of petrol and ethanol. While E20-compatible vehicles have already begun entering the Indian market, the introduction of an E100-capable motorcycle represents a much larger leap toward cleaner transportation. Ethanol burns cleaner than conventional petrol and can be produced domestically from agricultural feedstocks, helping reduce fuel imports and support rural economies.
