12-Year-Old Shot Dead in Lucknow: FIR against Friend and Father

12-year-old Unaiz Khan was shot dead at a birthday party in Lucknow. An FIR has been filed as reports link the accused’s father to UP Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak.

Lucknow: In a recent incident, a 12-year-old boy was shot dead at point-blank range inside a house near the Krishna Nagar area of Lucknow on Monday. The victim has been identified as Unaiz Khan.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, the incident is being treated as a case of accidental firing. However, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The FIR names the victim’s friend Navneet Tripathi and his father Sanjeev Tripathi, the owner of the licensed firearm allegedly used in the incident.

Police said the shooting occurred during a birthday gathering when the children were reportedly handling the revolver belonging to Sanjeev Tripathi. The weapon allegedly discharged accidentally, and the bullet struck Unaiz.

However, the victim’s family has alleged that the shooting was pre-planned and linked to a prior dispute between the accused Navneet and another friend of the deceased.

While speaking to local reporters, Unaiz’s father described the incident and said, “Four boys came in a car to take my son. I initially refused because he was observing a fast. But Unaiz said it was his friend’s birthday and that his absence would upset him.”

He further added that the boy who previously had a dispute with the accused did not attend the birthday party.

Family members said they had no prior suspicion of danger, as Unaiz had no personal dispute with the accused. The victim’s aunts also alleged that the murder was meticulously planned and have demanded a thorough investigation.

Police have launched an investigation and are examining all angles to determine whether the firing was accidental or intentional.
